It was my first graduation ceremony today at NTU. It made me proud to see my students cross the line and emerge graduates. It makes me realize the most of the job of teaching is giving people confidence, allowing them to sense possibilities and see the world of work as something that can be fun.
All the subjects that we have taught them is just shining a light on a problem area and giving a nudge. These young minds rage to master the problems if we can be clear in explaining them.
It feels very much like we have both welcomed these young people into a wider family of graduates, but also shared in a right of passage with their families. They have invited us in to be part of the development of their student. We are part of a life that is just unfolding and getting to move under its own power.
