I had a great day at BIG DATA LDN held at London Olympia. I implemented JD Edwards for Olympia as their ERP System some 30 years ago. It was both strange and familiar.
It was great to be at a high energy. face to face conference. I really liked the format of the lecture theaters and the exibitors in the same space. Bluetooth headphones all round. Like a silent disco for tech geeks. I really liked the format of 30 minute presentations. Good presenters make great use of 30 minutes. If you have a bad presenter, you only wasted 30 minutes of your life.
I got to hear from:
The RAF on their data mesh lessons learned from the first year.
Global Multi ERP Integration from Serge Gershkovich from SQLDBM
Machine Learning Ethics from Itoro Liney from Principality Bank
MLOPS In Practice from Bas Geerdink
I think the exhibitors should get more people on the stands that can speak about how their products actually work. That was a little bit frustrating.
It was interesting to see who is sponsoring and who is speaking. You can read the zeitgeist. The ebb and flow of technology fashions. It is fun to see the ratio between a new set of problems and a new set of words. Most of the new words are describing problems that you already know. There are some new problems in there as well. You just have to wade through a new lexicon to find them.
