I spent the afternoon catching up with an old colleague of mine from NTU. Professor Eiman Kanjo is Professor of Pervasive Computing and the Turing Academic Lead. She is also head of SmartSensingLab.com at Nottingham Trent University.
We spent the afternoon exploring how we can engage NTU as we embark on our Data Science and Analytics journey at NHS Supply Chain.
NTU is participating in Social Prescribing and Personalised Care projects that are intended to alleviate the strain on the NHS, by directing the patient journey into non-medical complements that may provide the same clinical benefit. For example, a doctor may prescribe statins for a patient that is suffering from high blood pressure. However, stroking a cat is a very good way to lower blood pressure that does not tie up a healthcare professional. Community resources such as Zoo’s and parks may be part of a broader view of treatment and wellbeing maintenance.
